This is an interesting article in the LATimes about a 'divided' couple. One R, one D. The thing that I found interesting is that the husband (the R) is fired up and anxious to vote. The wife (the D) is complacent and unmotivated.
"her husband, John, comes home most nights all spun up about what a lousy job President Obama and the Democrats are doing."
So does he think that Bush did a great job? Or that McCain would be any better?
"She likes Obama and the Democrats. But she's tired from juggling work, parenting and cooking, and voting in these dispiriting times seems like just one more chore."
Ya, don't vote. That will make things better.
"Nobody compromises. Nobody watches out for people like her"
Don't blame it on the D's. The R's are proud to be called the "party of no" and have announced their unwillingness to work with Obama even as they schedule meetings with him to discuss the economy.
"self-described angry voters - the ones grabbing all the attention - make up about 23% of the electorate."
Well, OK, that must mean that 76% of the voters are sane.
"People want to pin Obama to the wall. Give him a chance," she says. "Today it's 'You don't get it. Boom. Change.' So we put the Republicans back in and then go back to the Democrats? Where are we going?"
Ya. That makes some sense.
"John doesn't have any problem blaming Obama, though, now that he thinks of it, he's not all that crazy about Bush anymore either."
No, this doesn't make any sense. Typical narrow minded R thinking.

"end the stability she's attained since she was diagnosed with several forms of mental illness seven years ago."
The vast majority of people in prison suffer from mental illness. Much more expensive to prison someone than to medicate them. Short sighted American policies spending your tax $ again.
LATimes: “Maintenance work caused gas pressure to rise just before San Bruno explosion, report finds”
Remember Erin Brockovich? This is same company. I used to work for a public utility (Snohomish County PUD) and firmly believe that publicly owned utilities serve their users in a manner far superior to that of privately owned utilities. PG&E sucks.

The Chinese are going to be ahead of soon because they are farsighted and we are so nearsighted.
China's policies are "guaranteeing China access to energy and mineral resources, while simultaneously aiding development, expanding the Chinese economy and building strong trade and potential military alliances"
Our policy of brute force is more expensive, short sighted and less effective.
“China is investing $100 billion this year alone to build high-speed rail. It's working hard to corner sustainable-energy industries, too.”
We have been putting off light rail for decades. And it’s still a big fight to upgrade this vital piece of our infrastructure.
“Banks are now applying actual standards — tough ones — to lending. Also, lack of jobs for millions, and poor wages and shrunken wealth for millions more, dampen the demand.”
This is a big burden on the economy. A failure of our economic and an example of big business screwing Americans. And this is often an example of ‘cutting off your nose to spite your face’ thinking, favored by the R’s.
"investigating fraudulent and unfair business practices that likely affect hundreds, if not thousands, of Washington homeowners in foreclosure"
And the bands are unscrupulous. They don't even follow their own rules or the relevant laws.

"There's a high accident rate in the smaller mines," he says. While the country's official statistics record 33 mine deaths this year, he says that fatalities are undercounted, because there are only 40 investigators for thousands of active mines. Deaths from occupational illnesses are also ignored, he says.”

Nuff said.

I'm a loyal American. Yes, and I'm liberal too. The two are not contradictory, contrary to what the R's say. This is repugnant.

I'll bet she had a LOT of coaching. Let me see, stuff like "don't say anything stupid" and "don't talk about witchcraft" and "don't pleasure yourself during this debate" and don't talk about being a Hare Krishna.

I can understand their fears but I believe their logic is flawed. Forty percent of Americans are in favor of 'Obama Care'.
