One thing that troubles me @ our Afgan strategy is the poppy thing... It's my understanding that we buy the production in at least one other country to keep the farmers from starvation as well as to keep it off the market.  Hopefully while trying to develop other crops.  But in Afghanistan we have this slash & burn policy which I doubt can or will be successful.  I've written to my congressmen about this and they cite this several hundred page study...  blah blah blah
Obama feels he has two years to handle Afghanistan before the public demands withdrawal.  And of course congress, especially the Rep's are always trying to use this as a club against Obama (just like every other issue).
Here's a great article (LinkHere) that cites lot's of examples.  Like Europe & Japan after WWII.  We helped them for many years and look how successful they ultimately became.  What makes us think we can go in, raise havoc, leave and then expect them to happily & merrily continue with the values we want to leave them with?
