Headline: "Immigration agency ponders S.F. opt-out request"
OK, I'm a flaming liberal and as such I should probably support this action by SF.
But I don't.
You can look at some of my previous blogs and see my views on this complicated issue. AND NO, THIS IS NOT A SIMPLE ISSUE!
(Stevie's words of wisdom for today: There are very few simple issues in today's complex world. Just simple people seeing simple solutions to complex issues.)
And I am uncomfortable with calling them "illegal aliens" but I don't want to make an issue of that. It's just semantics.
BUT...If they are here illegally, and crossed the border illegally, and are working illegally, shouldn't we enforce our laws? There are lots of stories I can reference about undocumented immigrants breaking our laws, participating in gang violence etc. etc. But there are probably more stories I can reference about undocumented immigrants doing jobs that Americans won't do, keeping our food costs down and helping to replenish our SS funds (to our benefit & their loss).
A reasonable compromise needs to be reached. And of course a compromise means that everyone is unhappy with the solution.
Am I wrong on this???
