As I was until very recently a SC resident (and not at all proud of that fact), I feel I have a right to make the following comments and cite the relevant documentation for this claim: SC SUCKS!!!
1) The University of SC's mascot. NEWSFLASH (to all those that can read): COCKFIGHTING IS ILLEGAL!!! It's a disgusting blood sport that only appeals to sadistic rednecks with such a meaningless existence that they have nothing better to do than participate in a barbaric sport akin to the feeding of Christians to lions during Roman times.
2) Representative Joe Wilson, a Republican from South Carolina yelled "You lie!" during a speech by president Obama. Grow up SC. Quit voting for idiots to run your pathetic state.
3) A man in SC was recently convicted of having sex with his neighbor's horse. On more than one occasion I might add.
4) SC's governor Mark Sanford is a sad joke. During the Monika Lewinski affair he was a congressman from SC. He was one of the loudest voices in the House screaming for Clinton's impeachment. But HE leaves the state for a week, leaving no one in charge, lies about where he's going and visits his mistress in Argentina.
5) "We already got one raghead in the White House. We don't need another in the Governor's Mansion" This statement was made by SC senator Jake Knotts referring to Nikki Haley who just won the Republican primary for SC governor.
7) To quote Wikipedia: South Carolina was the first state to vote to secede from the Union and was the founding state of the Confederate States of America." This attitude still permeates SC. As an example of this mentality, the issue of flying the confederate flag over the state capital building is still a hotly debated issue. Here's a news flash for SC: The civil war was over slavery. Nothing more and nothing less. And if you don't agree with this ask yourself this question: If slavery were factored out, would the civil war still have happened? The answer is an unmitigated no. And guess what? The south lost the civil war! Where's the pride in that? Should we celebrate our loss of the Vietnam war too? Germany doesn't glorify Hitler and the Third Reich. 8) SC is quite literally the nation's garbage dump. Lax environmental oversight, shortsightedness, bribery and the good old boy network have allowed the creation of multiple "mega landfills" in SC to which many other states are allowed to ship their garbage. Some (maybe all?) of these sites have leaked toxic wastes into the ground water resulting in surrounding communities not only having obnoxious odors to contend with but losing their drinkable water source.
9) I could go on and on about the good old boy network, how SC has the lowest percentage of female legislators in the nation, has never had a female senator and has only sent two women to the house, and the fact that SC's state senate will have no female members next year, their woeful education system etc. etc. etc.
